RevitaliSe and Rejuvenate Your Skin

Chemical Peels

Chemical peeling is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that can significantly improve the appearance of the skin. The treatment involves the application of selected products to the skin, causing controlled exfoliation and regeneration. This process stimulates cell turnover, collagen production, and skin rejuvenation.

Book an individual consultation at Trinity Medical Aesthetics with our qualified medical practitioners to determine the most suitable type of chemical peel for your skin and desired outcomes.

Chemical peeling affects the skin in several ways, depending on the depth of the peel. Here are some of the effects.

1. Exfoliation. Chemical peels exfoliate the skin, remove dead skin cells, and promote cell turnover, leading to a smoother, brighter complexion.

2. Stimulation of Collagen Production, a protein that provides structure and elasticity to the skin. Increased collagen production can help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

3. Treatment of Skin Issues. Chemical peels can address various skin issues, including acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and uneven skin tone. The specific type of peel used will depend on the skin concern being targeted.

4. Skin Rejuvenation. By promoting the growth of new skin cells, chemical peels can rejuvenate the skin, making it appear more youthful and vibrant.

5. Skin Tightening. Some chemical peels, especially those that penetrate deeper into the skin, can stimulate the production of elastin fibres, improvbng skin tightness and firmness.

Different Types of Chemical Peels

Different types of chemical peels are available, ranging from superficial to deep peels, depending on the desired outcome and the condition of your skin. Superficial peels target the outermost layer of the skin (epidermis), while medium and deep peels penetrate deeper into the skin.

Superficial peels

Remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells, providing a glowing appearance with minimal downtime.

Medium peels

Suit sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, large pores, and dullness.

Deep peels

Involve the removal of most skin layers, resulting in significant downtime. However, deep peels are less commonly used nowadays, with alternative methods such as radiofrequency and laser gaining popularit

  • Enhanced skin radiance and glow.
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

Expected Results & Recovery Time

After a chemical peel, you may experience some redness and swelling, which will subside within 24-72 hours. For optimal results, regular peels are recommended every few weeks, with visible changes typically noticeable within 6-8 weeks. Depending on your desired outcome, we suggest a series of 6 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments every 6-12 months.

The downtime associated with chemical peels varies depending on the depth of the peel. Superficial peels have little to no downtime, while medium peels may require 2-4 days of recovery. Deep peels can have a downtime of 5-10 days, but their use is less common due to the availability of alternative treatments.

Risks & Side Effects

Although chemical peels are generally considered safe, it is essential to note that the risk of complications increases as the depth of the peel intensifies. Furthermore, the type of skin can also lead to some complications. Aftercare is important to minimise side effects and complications.

Complications can occur, including redness, swelling, itchiness, allergic reactions, infection, reactivation of cold sores, eye injury, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, milia formation, and demarcation lines. Rarely, chemical peels may lead to scar formation if deep peels are used.

However, our experienced practitioners take all necessary precautions to minimise these risks and ensure your safety.

Please note that the individual results will vary depending on the individual and the targeted area. Any details provided here are general and should not replace professional consultation.
